With an academic background commenced in naval architecture; focusing on yacht and small craft design, construction and techniques before branching out into Ocean Science (BSc.) and then Meteorology (MSc.) I have a broad background in the environment in which a vessel will need to operate.
This was followed by a period of postgraduate work in oceanography coupled with a decade delivering yachts, power and sail, mono and multihulls. During this time I sailed throughout Europe, numerous transatlantic crossings and crossed the Pacific logging some 185,000 Nm in the process.
I understand the rigours, which a yacht must be able to endure during its life.

In my capacity as a delivery skipper assessment of the seaworthiness each vessel with respect to the intended voyage was routine to provide a safe passage for all on board and to ensure the vessel arrived in good order irrespective of conditions en route.
From this point on coming ashore; it was a natural progression to move into surveying full time.

To enhance my background I undertook a Diploma in Small Craft Surveying through the International Institute of marine Surveying (IIMS), an organisation of which I remain a member.
Following completion of this Diploma Morbihan Yacht Survey first opened its doors in 2013.

Over the intervening years I have surveyed a wide range of vessels both sail and motor, mono and multi hulls and varied material; FRP, wood, steel and aluminium.

My knowledge base is supported by ongoing training in various facets of a a marine surveyors craft; as of the time of writing; I am commencing a course studying Corrosion in the marine environment in direct relation to yachts and pleasure craft.

In keeping with on-going development and to ensure I continue to keep my knowledge current I am a member of a number of organisations and as such adhere to the high standards and codes of conduct required of these organisations;

  • The International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS)
  • The Yacht and Designers and Survey Association (YDSA)
  • The Society of Consulting Marine Engineers and (SCMS)
  • Le Fédération Internationale Experts & Conseils Maritimes (FIEM)

I offer a comprehensive service with in depth reports detailing issues that arise from the survey.
